Alley Cat Eyes by SandieBlair Alley Cat Eyes by SandieBlair
This is only my second oil painting that I did on my own, (without a book to tell me what to do!) I really didn't know what I was doing, but that said, I am pretty happy with it. :) I don't know how to get a good picture of it, my scanner makes it even more blurry, so this is the best picture that I could get of it. Not to mention the fact that it is still wet!
It is 9" x 12".

Anyway, thank you to Valentina Kallias :iconvalentinakallias: for allowing me to use her fabulous photography as a reference. [link] She is an amazing photographer!

I might try this again some time when I figure out what I'm doing! lol.
Thanks for viewing it and if you have any suggestions on things that I could improve on, and ideas or hints on how I could fix this, please comment.

I really love the layout and structures here! I am a sucker for detail and the hairs are all directional and well layed out. You did a wonderful job creating a focal point to center the piece with the eyes and thier depth and detail. Even your signature hides nicely in the whiskers. Keep taking your time and adding the level of care that you took here to create these! The only criticism I have is that I can't quite picture the nose and it's shading sitting in this. I realize that it is probably how it is IRL but a little highlighting would go a long way here. (just my opinion)
What do you think?

wow.
this is a beautiful painting;
the direction of the fur, the detail in the eyes, the color. i'd very well say you know what your doing xD. i can't honestly see anything wrong with it to be brutally honest ( i would say it being too dark however that may be because of it being photographed wet, i can't really say xD). it's quite the spectacular piece, and i wish you luck in your further ventures!

I do like them. They are fun to work with and give me a long time to "play". I've been working on my first acrylic painting and it dries so fast, it doesn't give me time to breath! :(

yeah i thought oils would be good for that reason.. though the whole process scares me a little.. cracking and what not if your layers are too thick on top..
Have you tried the interactive acrylics? you can control the rate at which they dry i think..
Do you find it hard getting detail with the paint?.. im keen to try painting myself..
